    A Multipopulation Coevolutionary Strategy for Multiobjective Immune Algorithm

    How to maintain the population diversity is an important issue in designing a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm. This paper presents an enhanced nondominated neighbor-based immune algorithm in which a multipopulation coevolutionary strategy is introduced for improving the population diversity. In the proposed algorithm, subpopulations evolve independently; thus the unique characteristics of each subpopulation can be effectively maintained, and the diversity of the entire population is effectively increased. Besides, the dynamic information of multiple subpopulations is obtained with the help of the designed cooperation operator which reflects a mutually beneficial relationship among subpopulations. Subpopulations gain the opportunity to exchange information, thereby expanding the search range of the entire population. Subpopulations make use of the reference experience from each other, thereby improving the efficiency of evolutionary search. Compared with several state-of-the-art multiobjective evolutionary algorithms on well-known and frequently used multiobjective and many-objective problems, the proposed algorithm achieves comparable results in terms of convergence, diversity metrics, and running time on most test problems

    Change Detection in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images Based on Fuzzy Active Contour Models and Genetic Algorithms

    This paper presents an unsupervised change detection approach for synthetic aperture radar images based on a fuzzy active contour model and a genetic algorithm. The aim is to partition the difference image which is generated from multitemporal satellite images into changed and unchanged regions. Fuzzy technique is an appropriate approach to analyze the difference image where regions are not always statistically homogeneous. Since interval type-2 fuzzy sets are well-suited for modeling various uncertainties in comparison to traditional fuzzy sets, they are combined with active contour methodology for properly modeling uncertainties in the difference image. The interval type-2 fuzzy active contour model is designed to provide preliminary analysis of the difference image by generating intermediate change detection masks. Each intermediate change detection mask has a cost value. A genetic algorithm is employed to find the final change detection mask with the minimum cost value by evolving the realization of intermediate change detection masks. Experimental results on real synthetic aperture radar images demonstrate that change detection results obtained by the improved fuzzy active contour model exhibits less error than previous approaches

    Adaptive multifactorial particle swarm optimisation

    Existing multifactorial particle swarm optimisation (MFPSO) algorithms only explore a relatively narrow area between the inter-task particles. Meanwhile, these algorithms use a fixed inter-task learning probability throughout the evolution process. However, the parameter is problem dependent and can be various at different stages of the evolution. In this work, the authors devise an inter-task learning-based information transferring mechanism to replace the corresponding part in MFPSO. This inter-task learning mechanism transfers the searching step by using a differential term and updates the personal best position by employing an inter-task crossover. By this mean, the particles can explore a broad search space when utilising the additional searching experiences of other tasks. In addition, to enhance the performance on problems with different complementarity, they design a self-adaption strategy to adjust the inter-task learning probability according to the performance feedback. They compared the proposed algorithm with the state-of-the-art algorithms on various benchmark problems. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can transfer inter-task knowledge efficiently and perform well on the problems with different complementarity
